Marco Antonio Solis Long Beach Concert reviews
Where were the hits?
Marco Antonio Solis is developing quite a catalog of hit songs. Unfortunately, many performers are sick and tired of playing their hit songs. At every concert, there is tension between what the performer wants to play and what the audience wants to hear.
Saw Marco Antonio Solis in Cleveland. Very personable and fun with the audience, extraordinary talent, very entertaining, outstanding artistic flare, unexpected mix of instrumentals. Entertaining and surprising covers of Otis Reading and Prince. Very disappointed, however, that he did not find time for his #1 hit "Daugthers", did not play "Your Body is a Wonderland", and other hits like "No Such Thing", "Bigger Than My Body", or "Say".
As the show went on, it was frustrating when it became clear that many of his top hits were not going to be featured. The overall format of the show was peculiar. Marco Antonio Solis would work the crowd into a frenzy with a fast rock song and then follow it immediately with a slow, mellow song. There was no method or pattern to his playlist, and the concert was a bit of a jerky roller coaster ride of up beat and down beat tempos. It was down right annoying when we realized that the show ended right on cue at exactly 11:00PM -- no doubt that was contractual with the amphitheater. Of course, that made many of Marco Antonio Solis' claims that he would "play as long as I can" ring hollow. Despite these disappointments, the show was very good and I would recommend it. Yet, I have never been to a concert where a performer failed to play his only #1 hit single, yet found time to cover three other artists. You may not hear very many of them if you catch his latest tour.
